An epic, blockbuster film can be a great movie. But only if the focus is on the telling of the story in an honest and truthful way. I feel this film got too caught up in the effects and the attempting to deliver what the public wanted as opposed to just telling the story.

At the end of the day though, as long as you enjoyed the film that’s all that matters!

Yes I do watch them in their original language with English subtitles. I’m not a fan of the over dubbing except in old karate movies!!!

Oh, and given the season, Joulutarina, a Finnish film about how Santa came to be Santa, is definitely worth a look.

I have to disagree! Despite some shortcomings – and there were several – I really enjoyed this movie. It’s a long, long time since I read John Marsden’s books, but I have fond memories of them. Those memories are somewhat faded though, so I didn’t have particular expectations heading into the cinema for this one.

If the film-makers were making what they believed the public wanted, then I must be their target demographic

Yes, the effects were overdone (which genius engineer decided to build a bridge out of C-4?) and I take your point about some of the cliches (the reservoir dogs-style line-up as the group look out over the town was particularly hilarious/offensive, depending on your take). But the film-makers saw this as an “epic” story, and I guess wanted to give it a blockbuster feel.

Mission: Accomplished.

You should check out Persepolis (French Animation) and Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (also French) are both fantastic. I love Y Tu Mamá También.

I went to this movie only yesterday. I have similar complaints about this as it should have reflected what the book was to me and be one of the best movies ever made. No nostalgia.

How was it visiting Honk Kong again? Isn’t it such an exciting city? I would love to go back to work there.
I’ve also looked in to the film and tv industry in Canada as it’s easier to get a Visa to go to Canada.
What’s it like over there? Would you go to Vancouver or Toronto? If you could share some insights that would be fantastic!
